The village of Orient is one of the most remote on the island in valley surrounded by the Tramuntana mountains and accessible only by a winding road which connects Bunyola and Alaro. The small sleepy village could hardly be more rustic with its 14th and 15th century houses. It is protected as a place of historic interest and the 18th century Sant Jordi church is a place of pilgrimage. Orient is an excellent starting point for hikes and the perfect place for cyclists to stop as they ride trough the Tramuntana mountains. For example, the path from Orient to the fortress of Alaro is an easy, approximately 4 hour hike, there and back and is also great for family excursions.
